Vancouver WA Dental Crowns And Bridges
If you have lost a tooth or have a tooth that has undergone extensive work, such as a root canal or large filling, you may need to replace that tooth to prevent others from drifting, preserve your ability to chew and maintain the integrity of your bite. A dental crown offers the perfect solution, becoming a replacement that mimics the original tooth’s size and shape while also providing the strength you need to eat what you want.
We provide dental crown treatment at our office in Vancouver, Washington. Our experienced staff has performed many of these procedures, and Dr. Erika brings decades of knowledge to each treatment. You receive the highest-quality care when you trust us with your restorative dental work, including crowns made to look like your existing teeth. No one will ever know you have a crown.
WHAT ARE VANCOUVER DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES USED FOR?
Crowns are caps for teeth that have been lost or severely damaged. A dentist may use a crown for several purposes, such as:
- Restoring a broken, cracked or worn tooth.
- Replacing a decayed or lost tooth.
- Covering a dental implant or a discolored or misshapen tooth.
- Securing a prosthetic device, such as a dental bridge.
TYPES OF DENTAL CROWNS
You can get three types of crowns at Lighthouse Dental. Dr. Erika consults with you to determine the right one for your unique restoration, depending on the existing tooth’s structure or what needs protection. The three types are:
- Full-metal: Usually the least-expensive option, full-metal crowns are sturdy and work best in replacing the back teeth, where you chew.
- Full-porcelain: Porcelain offers a color match to your existing teeth and is often used in the front of the mouth, where people will see the crown.
Porcelain fused to metal: The combination of the two substances provides the strength and longevity of metal with the porcelain’s visual appeal.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A DENTAL CROWN PROCEDURE
It usually takes two appointments to get your crown. At the first, we take molds for the cap and create a temporary crown you can wear for a couple of weeks, until the lab has made your custom crown. Dr. Erika removes any existing decay during the appointment and cleans up the spot where the temporary crown will go, adhering it with temporary cement.
At the second appointment, Dr. Erika removes the temporary crown and again cleans the tooth and surrounding area. She then places the new crown, checking for proper bite and spacing. Your crown should feel like a regular tooth, and we will give you instructions on proper oral care to keep it healthy.
We understand that many people feel nervous about visiting the dentist. Dr. Erika focuses on providing pain-free treatment to our patients, who appreciate the laid-back, friendly atmosphere at Lighthouse Dental. We have personal amenities as well as music and headphones you can use to tune out the sounds of the procedure.
